August is a particularly relaxing time to visit Lake Como as it isn't as busy as July. Many Italians themselves choose to go on holidays during this time, so a few restaurants, hotels, and shops may have the "Gone until..." signs hanging on their windows. The weather will generally stay nice and dry but it can get quite hot in the middle of the day.

In addition to the main events listed below, there will be a fantastic display of fireworks in the middle of August in various towns on the lake - In fact they are so spectacular that you won't miss them from any location on the lake!

Very often, our visitors ask us for the best hotel around Milan where they can spend the night before continuing their journey onward to Lake Como. So we put together a short list of hotels near Malpensa airport, as well as near Bergamo's Orio al Serio airport. The Milan Linate airport is very close to the city center of Milan, so it's best to find a hotel downtown.
