Cheap Airfare
Italy Is a Goldmine

For cheap airfare, Italy has a great number of airlines to choose from. We've discovered that some of these cheap airlines are in fact quite reliable, very inexpensive, and fly from a large number of cities.

Two such airlines are ryanair.com and easyjet.com. Check out their websites for the most current fares and special offers.

Ryanair, also known as the 'on-time airline', has a very good reputation for low fares. They now fly to a huge number of destinations - usually to nearby towns of major cities, but always provide a shuttle bus to get to your final city. For example, for Lake Como, you could fly into Bergamo airport and then take a shuttle bus into Milan. Or take a train to Lecco or Varenna if you are staying on the eastern part of the lake.

Easyjet is another low cost airline that has some very low prices on many, many destinations as long as you book well in advance. For Lake Como, Easyjet flies into both of Milan's airports - Malpensa and Linate depending on where you are arriving from.

A Great Tip...

cheap airfare ItalyThere is a wonderful site called skyscanner.net which sifts through many low-cost airlines and can also put together a list of connections to help save you even more money.

...A Few More Tips

Here are a few more tips for finding cheap airfare (Italy...here I come!!)

  • Try to avoid traveling around major holidays unless one of the airlines above have a special discount for them.

  • Avoid, if possible, the so-called high season when school is out and planes are packed with tourists like sardine cases. It is better to fly before June or after September.

  • Try to choose weekdays as weekends are generally more expensive.

  • Try to reserve your flight well in advance

The Downsides of Cheap Airfare

The downsides to cheap airlines is that the seats can be less comfortable and smaller than in major airlines, they often don't fly directly to major cities instead choosing nearby towns, they sometimes fly at odd hours like very early in the morning or late at night, and they have the lowest priority at the airport, which could mean bad delays.

Phew! But remember these problems are not the case with every airline and bad situations are very rare.

As you can see, there are many, many ways to fly into the Lake Como Italy. Take a few minutes to check out the above sites and you are sure to find some amazing cheap airfare for your trip.
