Every has experienced unforgettable magic moments during their travel and ours occured in the most famous Lake Como resort town of Bellagio, Italy. The greatest feelings in life can sometimes be captured in a single moment, and it is so wonderful to have memories such as these, because you can bring them up anytime.
It was a starry-eyed night when my family and I were taking the boat from Cadenabbia to Bellagio for the very first time. The boat was slowly approaching the Bellagio promontory and one could already get a glimpse of the narrow side streets leading up from the harbor where we were about to dock.
There was something magical, almost mythical, about the way in which the boat seemed to remain still with the surroundings as if time had come to a complete stop. You know how fun a holiday can be when you visit a new location, know only a so much about it with no map in hand, and don't really know what to expect while letting that moment of time just carry you forward?
That's what we experienced on that boat ride. Anticipation, excitement and knowing only that we will enjoy every minute of this interesting, new town. Everything about Bellagio makes it a world-class Lake Como resort town. From its very special location - almost as if it were an island, to its coast - which gives the impression of the Ligurian coast, and to its special shops tailored towards the traveler with an interest in quality handicrafts and fine silk.

While the actual center of Bellagio is very small and intimate, the outskirts are equally as impressive. As you continue north from the ferry harbor with your gelato still in hand, you will walk past the gated, million-Euro homes of Bellagio's wealthy inhabitants. You will eventually reach the Punta Spartevento which is very rural and quiet offering opportunities for hiking, meditation and contemplation.
Restaurants abound and although they are quite pricey, they offer exquisite service and my mom absolutely fell in love with the long list of wines...although she had little money left after all that shopping!
Eating is a delightful experience in any Lake Como resort town, but especially in Bellagio, as you are expected to take as much time as possible and savor every dish as if it were the reason for your whole trip. We really enjoyed the family-run Trattoria San Giacomo, just up the hill. Who would ever know that such a simple dish made from fish from the lake could taste soooooo good...with just the right amount of sage, parmesan and butter sauce?
Bellagio also comes to life at night, when the dim lights add another dimension of sparkle to the town and when some churches and hotels offer live entertainment. OK, so you won't have Las Vegas showgirls, but that's not the reason of why you'd want to come here right?
