Best Deals on Italy Airfare
For Flights Within Europe

Looking for Italy airfare can be a breeze when you know where and how to look.

We have come across a fantastic search engine which sifts through all the low-cost airlines and virtually all airline booking companies. Actually, the following search engine below has never failed us for flights within Europe!

Cheap Flights from United Kingdom

Traveling Transatlantic? We’ve created a separate page for cheap transatlantic flights to Italy here.

For flights within Europe, such as trying to get from the United Kingdom to Italy, we’ve been observing the search engine for some time now, and every single time it turns up with the lowest possible airfare for our chosen journey, saving you hours of having to compare your fare on other major booking sites or having to check each individual airline directly. Better yet, there are no hidden booking fees or other unpleasant surprises.

Tip! Be sure to click on the price to verify it with the airline. Prices can change rapidly which we’ll discuss in the article below.

The system will also automatically check for indirect flights which could save you even more money (just be sure that the box “Indirect” is checked). Using this search engine, we have been able to get some amazing deals within Europe for as low as 20 euros – like one of our last flights from Bergamo to London Stansted airport!

Not many online booking search engines want to include European low-cost airlines or cheap Italian airfare into their online databases as they know they would only get a small commission cut from these companies. Thankfully, the problem has been solved as the search engine above will sift through regular airlines in addition to low-cost airlines!

Try it out yourself for all of your European air travel needs.

Example: London (LON) – Milan (MIL) for searching all possible airports around London or Milan.
Also, try Paris – Bergamo, Berlin – Milan, Warsaw – Rome, etc.

Because Italy is such a popular tourist destination, many Italian airports serve a large variety of international airlines. No matter where you are coming from, you are sure to find a great selection of possible connections to and from your destination.

We have put together a firm, step-by-step process to purchasing airfare that has never failed us anytime we wish to fly to Italy and get to Lake Como.

One tip we can give you right away is that if you see a great deal on Italy airfare, it’s best to grab it as soon as you can, as people snatch things up at the blink of an eye…especially since Italy is such an incredibly desirable destination year-round. We’ll never forget the time of the volcano disruption when people desperately tried to re-book their flights. One Ryanair flight we were tracing went up from 50 euros to 1000 euros in a matter of hours!

It’s a battlefield out there, so let’s figure out how to make it work for us. Let’s begin our step-by-step search…

Italy Airfare Deals Tips – Step #1 – Know your Milan airports

Before searching for the best Italy airfare, the first step is to decide upon your closest airport. For example, to get to Lake Como, the closest airports are located in Milan or Bergamo.

  • Milan Malpensa (MXP) is the most popular airport and largest of the three.
  • Milan Linate (LIN) is a much smaller airport but located close to the Milan’s city center (10km). You can take a shuttle to Milan’s central station.
  • Orio al Serio (BGY) is located in Bergamo (60 km East of Milan). It hosts a number of budget airlines.

A guide to Italy AirfareAlthough each airport has its own three letter code (like MXP for Malpensa, BGY for Bergamo), for our search purposes it is enough just to type in “Milan” or "MIL" into the search box and the system will search for all airports around Milan.

Step #2 – Dates

Decide which dates you’ll be traveling on. In Italy, airfare is generally cheaper when you travel on weekdays as opposed to weekends. It also pays to reserve your flight well in advance. Try to reserve at least 3 weeks in advance of your departure date to get the best deals, but if you can reserve even earlier then all the better for you.

Are your dates flexible? Fantastic…as many online flight search engines will allow you to find the lowest possible fare by displaying a monthly calendar of all available fares with the lowest costs in their database!

Step #3 – Cost

Want to find out how much you’ll be up for? Check out the best cheap flights search engine on the internet. You can find cheap flights from hundreds of sites with one click. It sifts, searches and sorts through hundreds of low cost airlines and virtually every kind of airline booking company out there consistently brings back the lowest prices for flights within Europe.

Or if you’re traveling transatlantic, we’ve created a separate page for cheap transatlantic flights to Italy here.

Step #4 – Go Direct

Sometimes even the very best online booking engine may not include super-low cost airlines who spend little on advertising. Some italian airlines remain unknown but they may still offer great rates from your destination.

Here’s how it works…

Do a search with each airline’s website directly to see if they have any specials running at the time. Each airline’s website has a special offers link that lists all destinations that are on sale.

We once managed to find a flight to Milan for our very best friend during Christmas time at only a few weeks notice – which is nearly impossible to get. Every single flight we checked was full, and we deemed the situation hopeless.

When we called the airline directly, the friendly agent found us a seat immediately, and even at a moderate price!

Como is about 50km away from Milan and is the most southern town on the western leg of Lake Como. Lecco is about 40km away from Bergamo and is the closest town on the eastern part of the lake.
